FATF to review crypto hubs for AML failures, first results due June 2027 - Cryptopolitan

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will assess jurisdictions that host significant crypto activity for weaknesses in their anti-money laundering (AML) regimes, with the first results of that review expected in June 2027. The move signals that global AML standards, which already extend to virtual asset service providers, are shifting from rule-setting toward active scrutiny of how consistently countries apply those rules in practice.
For market participants, the review matters because FATF assessments can influence how jurisdictions are perceived by banks, custodians and other regulated counterparties. A poor finding does not itself impose restrictions, but it can shape supervisory priorities and the due-diligence questions firms face when operating across borders. Crypto businesses with exposure to multiple hubs may therefore see greater attention to licensing, customer checks and transaction monitoring.
What to watch between now and 2027 is how the review's scope is defined, which jurisdictions are included, and whether findings prompt changes in national supervision. The timeline is long, so any market effect is likely to build gradually rather than arrive at once.
